About
Houseplantdex is a structured, filterable houseplant database. It exists because the open web is full of plant articles and almost no plant data.
The houseplant content people land on from search is mostly prose: 1,500 words of "How to care for X" that summarize one source and bury the answer. That format is being eaten by AI summaries because it has nothing else to offer — it doesn't let you filter, compare, or query.
A real database does. Pet-safe houseplants for low light? One filter combination. Plants that tolerate forgetting to water them? Another. Comparing pothos to philodendron? Same page, side by side, every attribute aligned.
We build the data deliberately — see methodology — and we're honest when we don't know something. If ASPCA hasn't said a plant is safe, neither have we.
Status
Phase 1. Catalog is small while we prove the format. More plants land regularly.
