Privacy Policy

Houseplantdex is a static reference site. We don’t have accounts, logins, or a backend that stores your data. This policy explains the limited data that is collected through analytics and advertising, and how you control it.

Who we are

Cookies and consent

How we handle analytics cookies depends on where you are visiting from, using Google Consent Mode v2:

• EEA, United Kingdom, and Switzerland: we show a cookie banner and set no analytics or advertising cookies until you press Accept. If you press Decline — or simply ignore the banner — no such cookies are set.
• Everywhere else: analytics runs by default and a consent cookie preference is stored for you automatically. No banner is shown.

Your choice (or the automatic default for your region) is remembered in your browser’s local storage so we don’t ask again. To change it later, clear this site’s data in your browser and — in consent regions — the banner will reappear.

If you have declined (or not yet decided), Google’s measurement code still runs in a cookieless mode: it may send basic, non-identifying signals (such as that a page was viewed) without setting cookies or storing identifiers.

Analytics (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand which pages and features are useful — aggregate things like page views, referring sites, and approximate region. IP addresses are anonymized. We do not use this data to identify you personally, and we do not sell it. Google’s handling of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

To determine whether the consent banner is required, your request’s country (as reported by our hosting provider, Cloudflare) is checked once at page load. The country code is not stored by us.

Advertising

We intend to display ads through Google AdSense. When ads are enabled and you have consented, Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including personalized ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites. If you decline consent, we do not enable personalized advertising cookies.

Hosting

The site is served through Cloudflare, which may process limited connection metadata (such as IP address) to deliver content securely and protect against abuse. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

What we don’t do

• No user accounts, profiles, or stored personal collections.
• No selling or renting of personal data.
• No newsletter sign-up that isn’t explicitly requested by you.

Your choices and rights

You can decline analytics and ad cookies at any time via the banner / by clearing site data. Because we don’t maintain personal accounts, we hold no profile to access or delete; for data handled by Google or Cloudflare, use their respective controls linked above. We may update this policy as the site evolves (for example, when advertising goes live). Material changes will be reflected in the “last updated” date above.
